The Katsina State Police Command has arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered a cache of arms-related exhibits during an intelligence-led operation along the Zaria–Funtua highway.
The suspects, identified as Shu’aibu Musa, also known as Abba (30), and Ahmed Sani (27), were intercepted on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. while riding a motorcycle during a stop-and-search operation conducted by police operatives.
According to the command, a search of the suspects led to the recovery of six AK-47 magazines and 305 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition, which were allegedly concealed on them.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects confessed to having received the ammunition from Jos, Plateau State, with the intention of delivering it to a suspected notorious armed bandits’ kingpin.
The suspects and the recovered exhibits are currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing. The police said further developments would be communicated in due course.
Commending the operatives for the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, urged members of the public to continue supporting the command’s crime-fighting efforts by providing timely and credible information to aid prompt action against criminal elements in the state.
The arrest follows directives by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on intensified proactive policing to enhance safety and security, particularly along major highways across the country.
